Quantum Advantage: Deciphering the Timeline, Pathways and Implications (Quantum World Congress 2024)
“Quantum Advantage: Deciphering the Timeline, Pathways and Implications" panel occurred during the Government & Security breakout track at Quantum World Congress 2024 featuring: Steve Brierley, Riverlane; Hrant Gharibyan, BlueQubit; Andrew King, D-Wave Systems; and Nicolas Daval, Quobly.
Steve Brierley is CEO & Founder of Riverlane. He founded Riverlane in 2016 to build the error correction stack for quantum computers. Driven by his conviction that fault-tolerant quantum computers will accelerate human progress, Riverlane partners with leading quantum hardware companies to make that happen sooner. Steve has worked in quantum for over 20 years and is an expert advisor to the UK government. He holds a PhD in quantum information, spent a decade in the intelligence community and worked as a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Cambridge leading major research projects in quantum computing. In January 2024, Steve was awarded an OBE for his services to quantum computing.
Hrant Gharibyan is CEO & Founder of BlueQubit. BlueQubit is a California-based startup specializing in crafting GPU- accelerated quantum infrastructure and QC platform tailored for hybrid classical-quantum algorithms. As its co-founder and CEO, Hrant Gharibyan plays a pivotal role in guiding its scientific innovations and fostering strategic partnerships. Hrant is a Stanford-trained quantum scientist with a decade of experience in quantum physics and algorithms as a Simon’s Fellow at Caltech and researcher at Google's Quantum AI team.
Andrew King is a Senior Distinguished Scientist at D-Wave Systems, which he joined in 2013. He completed his Ph.D. in computer science at McGill University and was a postdoctoral researcher at Columbia University and Simon Fraser University. With a background in graph theory and discrete algorithms, he is an expert on quantum annealing, benchmarking, and simulation of quantum condensed matter.
Nicolas Daval is Senior Vice President of Engineering at Quobly, bringing over 20 years of experience from semiconductor giant Soitec, where he played a key role in launching FD-SOI technology. At Quobly, his focus is on scaling quantum technology hand-in-hand with industry partners and building an effective, collaborative engineering team. He is responsible for both team dynamics and manufacturing partnerships.
